The New Jersey Wine Competition has named Alba Vineyard in Milford 2009 Winery of the Year for the second consecutive year. This was the largest competition in the history of New Jersey, with 313 wines from 27 wineries. Alba had the largest margin of victory in the history of the competition, with a total of 15 medals including six Gold, seven Silver and two Bronze.
Alba’s 2007 Estate Barrel Reserve Chardonnay received the Best Vinifera designation. Alba was previously named New Jersey Winery of the Year in 2006 and 2008.
In celebration, Alba is hosting a Music Under the Arbor event 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 31. A collaboration of two well-known local bands, The VooDUDES and Night Train, will play as The Long Gone Daddies.
Wine tastings will be available throughout the day for $5 per person. Wine and cheese-and-cracker platters also will be available for purchase. Picknickers mahy also bring their own snacks to enjoy outdoors on the lawn or at the picnic tables under the arbor as they listen to the music.
